Many images have a way of depicting women, children, the poor

and individuals of color in ways that romanticize their positions in society.

John Berger's writing, in Ways of Seeing, points out that these images do two things.

One, they portray these individuals as generally happy, carefree, stoic, noble even contented; and two

the wealthy observer derives a sense of self-satisfaction from these images because they supply the poor with money by buying their wares.

The meaning is: capitalism is a source of hope for the world.

This piece attempts to examine this field of meaning. It juxtaposes images, text and sound in an effort

to allow the viewer to alter his or her traditional viewpoints and perhpas experience a reinterpretation of a heretofore

structured social system.
